The GreenHouse is a wedding venue that focuses on elevated cuisine served in a light filled airy space reminiscent of a greenhouse.

Design an app that allows couples to preview the catering menus offered, customize their own menu, and get a quote before visiting the venue.

IDENTIFYING THE PROBLEM

Need: 

Through research, I determined that there are currently no catering menu apps offered by wedding venues to showcase their menu. 

Opportunity:

How might I simplify the culinary planning and decision making process for couples who are interested in booking the GreenHouse for their wedding?

After conducting user and competitive research I identified these SOLUTIONS to user pain points:

the ability to customize a menu to account for dietary restrictions

simplified descriptions of menu items without flowery language

upfront pricing without hidden costs

use of images and strong visuals

images of each dish so that users can visualize what their guests will be offered

detailed but simple descriptions of each dish with ingredients listed

common dietary restrictions listed under each menu item

an add button so that the user can save favorite dishes to their custom menu

Earth tones were chosen to represent nature and elegance which are reflective of the GreenHouse's aesthetic and brand. The use of the san-serif fonts Raleway & Jost reflect the brand's modern aesthetic.

LOGO DESIGN

The logo design for the GreenHouse was influenced by architecture. It features clean lines, san-serif font, and the bold use of color to give it a modern, fresh look.

USABILITY TESTING

The overall goal of the usability tests was to determine if the menu preselection feature simplified and improved the wedding planning experience for couples.

I conducted two usability tests with 5/6 participants per test. Participants were asked to give feedback based on ease of navigation and visual design. I also asked participants for feedback regarding the customization feature and if it enhanced their experience. 

I received positive feedback on the custom menu feature. Users liked that they could edit, preview, and get a price quote for their catering menu all on an app. One feature they resonated the most with was the images of the dishes because it's not an industry standard for wedding menus.

REFLECTIONS

Going into this project, I was surprised at how important diversity in food options was to everyone I interviewed. The target users were very conscious about dietary restrictions and making sure that all of their guests' needs are accounted for. 

Because of how important detail seemed to be to users, most of my focus was on developing a complex customizable menu. If I were to redesign this app, I would concentrate more on the interaction design between screens.
